Job Fair aimed to help hundreds affected by Long Prairie closure

    March 30, 2018

(Long Prairie, MN) A Community Job Fair has been set up in Long Prairie just over a month since printing company LSC Communications announced it will be closing in Todd County.   On March 2nd the Long Prairie Chamber of Commerce along with LSC conducted the Job Fair at First Baptist Church in Long Prairie.  There was space for more than 60 businesses.  For a list of participants and schedule of presentations simply click on this Job Fair link.

In late January the Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal reported that LSC Communications, a Chicago-based spin off of Fortune 500 company R.R. Donnelley & Sons Co., is closing its plant in Long Prairie, resulting in the layoff of 236 workers there. That is according to a notice filed with the state of Minnesota.

Long Prairie, had a population of roughly 3,500 in 2016.  The plant sits on a 4.6-acre parcel and has an assessed value of $3.68 million for tax purposes, according to Todd County property documents.  LSC Communications said it will commence laying off the workers in March.  Local management referred us to the corporate office in Chicago for comment, but as of this report, we have not been able to connect with their company spokesperson.
